Theatre: “Damages” – at the Bridewell Theatre, 21 to 25 February 2012.

It’s a serious business, media responsibility. How do you strike the right balance between personal privacy and freedom to publish stories of public interest?

That doesn’t mean, of course, that the subject has to be approached with po-faced solemnity. So here’s an alternative approach:

“Damages” is:

  • a razor-sharp and highly topical comedy set in a national tabloid newsroom;
  • written by Steve Thompson, the writer of the moment (he did the last episode of Sherlock…)
  • at the Bridewell Theatre, right by the Journalists’ Church and the closest thing Fleet Street has to a theatre of its own.

Sharp, slick, cynical and howlingly funny .. a modern The Front Page with balls. I haven’t laughed so much or so loudly in the theatre for a long time” – The Guardian

“One of the most gripping and plausible newspaper dramas I have ever seen” – Charles Spencer, Daily Telegraph

Hilarious. Thompson’s razor-sharp lines shoot from one side of the room to the other. A great night out” – Tribune

    The link to the theatre is incorrect- it takes you to a theatre in Oregon not Fleet Street.
