Phone Hacking Trial: the final application, some revelations and a CPS Statement [updated]

???????????????????????The phone hacking trial of originally eight and finally seven defendants finally concluded yesterday, 25 June 2014, having begun on 28 October 2013.  It end with a verdict of guilty on Count 1, conspiracy to intercept voicemails, against former News of the World Editor Andy Coulson.  The jury were unable to agree on two charges of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office against Andy Coulson and Clive Goodman. The other five defendants – Rebekah Brooks, Stuart Kuttner, Charlie Brooks, Cheryl  Carter and Mark Hanna – we acquitted on all charges. Read the rest of this entry »

Mr Justice SaundersDay 115, Part 1: Jurors in Court 12 of the Old Bailey will have to determine three key issues about phone hacking at the News of the World: how much was there, when – and who knew?, the judge said today.

Beginning his three-day summing up in the phone hacking trial, Mr Justice John Saunders said the jury should disregard all extraneous matters when deciding whether the seven defendants were guilty or not guilty. Read the rest of this entry »





Phone Hacking “Trial of the Century” begins tomorrow: eight defendants face a total of seven charges

Brooks and CoulsonThe first phone-hacking trial begins next week before Mr Justice Saunders and a jury in Court 12 at the Central Criminal Court (the “Old Bailey”) in London on Monday 28 October 2013.  The first day or two are expected to be taken up with legal argument and the selection of the jury so the prosecution opening is not likely to begin until Tuesday or Wednesday.
