On Wednesday 15 July 2026, the Court of Appeal (Vos MR, Warby LJ and Whipple LJ) handed down judgement in the appeal of Vince v ANL [2026] EWCA Civ 899. Eco entrepreneur, Dale Vince brought a defamation and subsequent data protection claim against Associated Newspapers in relation to the publication of an article which juxtaposed his photograph with a headline referring to a “sex pest” Labour donor, despite the article itself relating to another individual. The punk-rap duo Bob Vylan has filed defamation proceedings against the BBC in the High Court in Ireland, following its coverage of their 2025 Glastonbury performance, which the broadcaster described as containing “anti-Semitic sentiments.” Continue reading

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has indicated that he believes it may be appropriate to police chants at pro-Palestine marches or stop some protests altogether in the wake of the Golders Green terror attack, which targeted two Jewish men. Starmer told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that he is concerned about the “repeat nature” and “cumulative effects” of the protests. Continue reading
The company which operates the World Check database, Refinitiv, settled the data protection claim brought by two children ( Lazarevic and another v Refinitiv Ltd KB-2024-003170) on the first day of what was to be a five day trial. Refinitiv agreed to remove the profiles . Continue reading
On 16 March 2026, Fancourt J handed down judgment in the case of Sculfor and Ors v MGN [2026] EWHC 597 (Ch). The first claimant, the model Paul Sculfor, was successful on the limitation issue being tried but the other four were held to be statute barred under the Limitation Act 1980. Continue reading
The government announced plans to strengthen children’s online safety, including amending the Crime and Policing Bill to bring AI chatbot providers within scope of the Online Safety Act 2023’s illegal content duties and introducing new powers in the forthcoming Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill. On Tuesday, 25 November 2025, the Home Secretary and Home Office issued a full apology to Muslim community leader Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin before Hill J in the High Court and paid his costs and £225,000 in damages for wrongly alleging that he had taken part in war crimes during Bangladesh’s war of independence.
