Law and Media Round Up – 15 June 2026

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has today announced a Australian-style ban for Teenagers under the age of 16 from accessing “high-risk” social media apps while safer platforms will be subjected to restrictions. There will blocks on harmful functions such as livestreaming and stranger communication with children for under-16s.  These proposals were made after a consultation on keeping children safe online. Law and Media Round Up – 9 March 2026

The final hearing before the Investigatory Powers Tribunal in the claim brought by Vincent Kearney and the BBC against MI5, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the Metropolitan Police Service, Durham Constabulary and others concluded on 3 March 2926. The open hearing focused on Mr Kearney’s claim for damages after MI5, the PSNI and the Metropolitan Police had admitted unlawfully acquiring Mr Kearney’s communication data between 2006 and 2013.
