On Wednesday 29 January 2025, the Press Justice Project is bringing together regulators, legal practitioners and even an award-winning actor – to address critical issues in reputation and media accountability with “Reputation 2025”: the first media law conference of the year.

The conference features legal experts including Hugh Tomlinson KC and Lorna Skinner KC, two of the UK’s foremost media law barristers from Matrix Chambers. Both bring extensive expertise in handling complex legal cases involving press misconduct, offering attendees insights into developments in libel, privacy, data protection law and more.

A second panel will include representatives from the UK’s press complaints bodies: Lexie Kirkconnell-Kawana of IMPRESS and Charlotte Dewar of IPSO, alongside former Guardian Readers’ Editor Chris Elliott.  Chaired by former Fleet Street editor Chris Blackhurst, this panel discussion will explore contemporary challenges facing press standards bodies.

Finally, the event will hear from Christopher Jefferies, a victim of press abuse whose experience with intrusive and defamatory media coverage shocked the nation. His story inspired the ITV drama The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies. Joining him will be actor Jason Watkins, whose portrayal of Jefferies in the dramatisation earned him a BAFTA. they will discuss the human cost of unethical journalism and the ongoing fight for accountability.

This unique event will be followed by drinks with networking opportunities.
