In the case of Braun v Poland (Judgment of 4 November 2014), the Fourth Section of the Court of Human Rights found that the domestic courts had violated Article 10 by applying stricter standards to a commentator than were applied to journalists. The media law news this week was dominated by the ruling of Mr Justice Mitting in the “Plebgate” libel trial. After a hearing of 8 days (as opposed to the 12 days originally ordered) the judge reserved judgment overnight and delivered it at 2.00pm on Thursday 27 November 2014.
