The IMPRESS Project: a viable, independent model of press regulation? – Jonathan Heawood

The Independent, the Guardian and the Financial Times no longer belong to the self-regulatory body for press journalism. This was not the outcome intended by Leveson, Parliament, nor the public, and this is why the IMPRESS Project is in the process of designing an alternative. Continue reading

chessington_world_of_adventures_kobra2The case of Merlin Entertainments LPC v Peter Cave ([2014] EWHC 3036 (QB)) explores the extent to which a campaign of criticism, conducted by internet and email, can merit restraint by the civil courts. As the judge says, whatever the aims of the campaign in question, its supporters may, in the course of their activities, annoy, irritate, and upset companies and individuals.  But should the courts interfere, before the question whether the campaign is justified has been decided?  And to what extent is such a campaign a criminal offence? Case Law: Brand v Berki, Russell Brand and Jemima Khan obtain continuing “anti-harassment” order against masseuse – Oliver Murphy

Brand-KhanThe High Court has recently granted an extension to an anti-harassment injunction taken out by Russell Brand and Jemima Goldsmith, otherwise known as Jemima Khan (the Claimants), against a masseuse (the Defendant). In Brand & Anor v Szilvia (aka Sylvie) Berki [2014] EWHC 2979 (QB) (11 September 2014) Mrs Justice Carr outlined the thresholds necessary for a successful application for an “anti-harassment” injunction.
