It appears that the claims concern both phone hacking and “blagging” of private information by both newspapers over a period of years including the period when Piers Morgan was editor of the Daily Mirror. The Duke of Sussex is represented by Clintons.
A large number of phone hacking claims have been brought against News Group Newspapers as publishers of the News of the World and the Sun and MGN as publishers of the Daily and Sunday Mirror and the People.
It was confirmed at the trial of Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson that Princes William and Harry were hacked by the News of the World. Their personal assistant Helen Asprey was hacked on multiple occasions. The Media Standards Trust’s report “Who was hacked?” [pdf] lists members of the Royal Family and the Royal Household among the victims of News of the World phone hacking.
These new legal claims come a few days after the Duke of Sussex issued a statement accusing British tabloid press of “relentless propaganda” in his statement announcing his wife’s legal action for infringement of copyright, privacy and data protection against the Mail on Sunday.
