We are aware of three defamation and malicious falsehood cases listed for trial this term. None of them are against UK media defendants:
11 June 2018, Mansha v ARY Network, listed for 4 days
11 June 2017, Gahir v Bansai, listed for 2 days. This is a claim for libel in relation to two handwritten letters. There was an interim judgment of Sir David Eady, [2016] EWHC 2041 (QB)
18 June July 2018, Burki v Seventy-Thirty Ltd, listed for 4 days. This is a claim for libel and malicious falsehood in respect of reviews of the claimant’s business. The Particulars of Claim are available on Lawtel [£]
2-4 July 2018, Monir v Wood, listed for 2 further days following a part heard trial in April 2018. The claim is against the former Chairman of the UKIP Bristol Branch for a tweet published by the Branch’s Twitter account (see the 5RB news item about the original hearing).
16 July 2018, Piepenbrock v London School of Economics, listed for 10 days.
We know of two media law appeals listed in the Court of Appeal this term:
19 or 20 June 2018, Stunt v Associated Newspapers, listed for 2 days. The ICO has intervened in the appeal. We had a post about the first instance decision.
25 July 2018, Kennedy v National Trust for Scotland, listed for 2 days. We had a post about the first instance decision.
