News: Conservatives pull out of cross-party Leveson talks, Parliament will decide

image1The Prime Minister has told a press conference that the Conservatives are pulling out of cross party talks about the implementation of the Leveson report.  He said that regulation would not work without the consent of the press.  He accepted that, as a result, the matter would be decided by Parliament on Monday 18 March 2013, when there would be a vote on “Leveson amendments” to the Crime and Courts Bill. News: Four Mirror Journalists arrested over phone hacking

Mirror GroupFour present or former Mirror journalists were arrested today by Metropolitan police officers on suspicion of conspiracy to hack mobile telephones.  Three men and one woman aged between 40 and 49 were held at addresses across south London and are being interviewed at various police stations in London and searches were continuing at a number of addresses. Twitter enters the courts in Ontario – Adam Lazier

Under a policy that came into force on February 1, journalist are now allowed to tweet and live-blog proceedings in the OntaTwitter-007rio Superior Court of Justice, the province’s court that hears civil and major criminal proceedings.  Although the policy has a number of limitations, it marks an important step forward for open courts in Ontario.
